Frequently asked questions

What is the process of adopting a cat with Minnie's Haven?

Once you have completed our adoption form, we will contact you to arrange a home visit to discuss your application. We will then advise you of some of our available cats that are suitable to you, your home and family. Once you have decided on which cat you would like to welcome into your family and you have paid the adoption fee, you will then receive the adoption forms and can collect your new furry friend/family member!

You will also receive 1 month of free pet insurance for your new cat when you adopt with Minnie's Haven.

What is the adoption fee?

We kindly request a donation of £100 to our charity when you adopt a cat. Or a donation of £50 if the cat is over 10 years of age.

How quick is the adoption process?

Adoption can happen within days, once the home visit is completed.

Please only apply if you're ready to adopt your cat/s. If you are going on holiday, wait to schedule the home visit until you return.

What should I expect during a home visit?

Please don't worry about the home visit. This is just an informal discussion for us to find out more about you, your lifestyle and what you are looking for etc. This is to ensure our cats are going to a suitable environment. We will provide you with information about Minnie's Haven and how our process of adopting works. We can also discuss if we have any cats that could be suitable for your household. If you have any questions for us, we will also be able to answer these.

What do I do if I have any problems after adopting my cat/s?

We are always available for support. Whether that be - a day, a week or even 3 years after adoption. We can be contacted via social media, email, text, phone using the contact details above.

When you adopt a cat with us, you also receive 1 month of free pet insurance. This can help provide you with comfort knowing that your new cat is covered!

We also have a private Facebook group just for our adopters! This is so they can share their cat's stories and update us with cat pictures/videos - we love to see our cat's thriving in their new homes! View some of our happy rehomed cats here.

What if my situation changes and I can no longer keep the cat/s?

As per the adoption contract - if your situation changes and you can no longer keep the cat/s you have adopted, they must come back to us.

Please give us as much notice as possible as we do not always have immediate space available but we will get them as soon as possible.

If you have someone that wants to take the cat/s you must get in contact with us to discuss, we do keep records on all of our cats.

It is worth strongly considering having a note somewhere easily accessible with our details on and instructions to contact us regarding the cat/s should anything happen.

Is there anything I need to keep in mind whilst fostering for Minnie's Haven?

When you become a fosterer:

  • you cannot open windows and/or doors

  • foster cats are not allowed outdoors

  • you can request window safety lock from trustees

This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the cats you are looking after.

Why do I have to adopt two kittens?

Any reputable charity or rescue will only rehome young kittens in pairs or to a home with an active resident cat. This is due to Single Kitten Syndrome.

Trying to rehome a 9 week old kitten with an elderly cat is not a good idea either. This is due to the likelihood of the kitten pestering the elderly cat and that is not fair, this is why we state an active cat.

Some people might disagree with this as they may have been one of the very few lucky ones to have a single kitten that is well rounded. We take the stance that we do best by the animal and their individual needs.
