I rescued my first cat 56 years ago—a beautiful but battered ginger street boy—and I’ve been rescuing ever since.

Over the years, caring for animals has always been a huge part of my life. I hand-reared my last two cats after they were found as tiny kittens trying to feed from their mum, who had sadly died after being abandoned. Both went on to live long, happy lives into their twenties.

I began fostering in West Yorkshire after leaving full-time work to care for my dad, and I’ve continued supporting rescue efforts ever since. Originally from West Yorkshire, I’ve lived in various locations across the UK and in Germany—one of the perks of being married to a man in uniform!

My working life has taken two very different paths: running pubs and bars, and working as a civil servant, including roles with the MOD, prison service, and local authority.

These days, I spend lots of time with my two gorgeous granddaughters—“granny daycare” keeps me busy! It does mean I sometimes have to take a step back from my role at Minnie’s Haven, but I’m incredibly proud of what Kara, Jenna, and I have built together. With the continued support of our amazing volunteers and supporters, I truly believe Minnie’s Haven will thrive and grow for many years to come.

What do I do at Minnie's?

Behind the scenes, I help with banking, accounts, Gift Aid, database management, emails, and fundraising—when I’m not hiding my phone from the grandchildren!

My animals:

I don’t currently have any animals of my own. I still love fostering, but with the grandkids going through a “leave every door open” phase, it’s not quite the right time!
