The Importance of Microchipping - Moses' Story
Why microchipping is so important... Meet Moses - MISSING FOR OVER 2 YEARS!
1 min read
Over the last 4 weeks, we've not only been reminded how important chips are, but also how important it is that they are checked!
One cat was surrendered to us who was supposedly chipped (it was done by the vets and registered on the database). However, when scanned, the chip was not detected. After it was implanted, it was never checked again. At some point the chip has misfired or is faulty.
Get your cats chip checked annually.
We took in a cat who was chipped, but not registered. Which means absolutely no details held about the cat or owner. Microchips must be registered after they are implanted!
Log into your database and ensure your pets chip is registered.
We have scanned a cat who was chipped, but details were not updated. The cat was registered to the old address and the telephone numbers didn't work. Thankfully after some digging, owners were traced.
Keep details up to date. Address and phone number.
This week, one of our previously adopted cats who had gone missing, was FOUND and handed into a vets. Owners were contacted immediately as the chip was marked as MISSING (more on that on another post)
If your pet goes missing. Make sure you mark the chip as missing.
MEET MOSES - MISSING FOR OVER 2 YEARS!!
On 17/11/25 - we collected an injured cat from Amble industrial estate. A lovely man named Alan had discovered her and after speaking with vets, got our number for help. While we were there, we were told of a second cat who came and fed but wouldn't approach anyone. He'd been around some time. We had offered to trap this cat and determine if it was feral or if domestic, to scan him.
Alan stayed in touch and on Friday, he called to say the black and white cat was sat in his van eating some food! We quickly headed over to scan him, to find Moses had been logged missing over 2 years ago!!
His story really is one to tell, as it shows how keeping details up to date is so important!
Moses went missing shortly after moving to Amble in 2023. However his chip was registered over an hour away. This is where the story unfolds...
During his time away, his owner became terminally ill and she had to move away to be closer to family. Her daughter changed the chip details to her, in the hope that one day, if he were found, someone would be able to make contact with her. That day was Friday ♥️
While his owner is still with us, she is now in care and unfortunately not in a position to take Moses back. I have spoken with her and she was beyond emotional knowing he was safe and alive. On Sunday, we made the hours drive and he has gone to live with her daughter and we've given a lady closure.
Welcome home Moses.....
